Fueled by “a fascination with electricity”, Steve has always gravitated towards science and math which led to a career in Electrical Engineering. After receiving both a Bachelor’s of Science and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University, he landed his first job with Ralston Purina in St. Louis, as the company’s first Control System Engineer. He later went on to work for another company that specialized in manufacturing automation systems. In 1993, Steve and his wife, Nancy, realized he could take his passionate drive, management experiences and technical know-how to form what is now Malisko Engineering, Inc. Along with Nancy, Steve has built Malisko with quality and commitment to the client, as well as his team members, in mind. Steve is a Registered Professional Engineering in Missouri, Colorado, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Texas and is a member is NSPE, MSPE, ISPE, ISA and NFPA.

NANCY LANGE

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and his Masters of Business Administration from the same university, Tim has the knowledge and experience to take a plant engineer’s concept and translate it into a tangible business solution. His work in a variety of industries, including working in a manufacturing facility, helps him address client’s needs to increase capacity throughput by adding control to increase efficiency, reduce waste or increase yield. The variety of clients Tim works with keeps his days interesting.

Leading the controls system integration portion of a $54 million Specialty Chemical Plant expansion that resulted in a successful startup.

After receiving his Bachelor Degree in Economics from Arizona State University he found himself back in the dairy world, analyzing product manufacturing costs at a dairy plant. This hands-on experience helped Dan move to a consultant position where he now helps other manufacturers address their pain points, including inefficiencies, legacy equipment, and poor industrial automation networking.

Dan enjoys assembling and working with diverse project teams who work together to make a positive, lasting impact for each client. Dan is also passionate about delivering value to clients beyond plant floor control, specifically with Industrial IT and helping clients address their Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) initiatives. Dan currently is a member of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, The Brewers Association, and is a member on the Colorado State University Industry Advisory Board for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Department of Health and Human Sciences – Fermentation Science.

After receiving his Associates Degree in Control System Technologies from Ranken Technical College, Jim dove straight in to designing robust plant control systems for clients. His daily goal is to make each client’s control system more efficient and reliable so that each product comes out to specification after his work is complete. Today, he leads a team in Malisko’s Wisconsin office while continuing to contribute to projects.

Current Openings:

Network, Security & Information Engineer

This opening is for our St. Louis, MO office.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to serve as one of Malisko’s architects of Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) Systems for our manufacturing clients including design and implementation of defense-in-depth Control System security. An auxiliary role of this position is to assist in the development and enforcement of Malisko’s internal IT policies and best practices.

A requirement of this position is a willingness of the candidate to cross over into the Operational Technology (OT) space and learn fundamentals of manufacturing automation systems including aspects of manufacturing IoT initiatives (Internet of Things). The candidate must have a willingness to learn and support installation, configuration, and commissioning of Manufacturing Automation “information” software platforms including production web portals, factory floor process reporting, production relational database administration, and other elements of enterprise level Manufacturing Execution Systems.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2 – 4 years of demonstrated experience in:

  • Physical network design
  • Logical configuration of network and security hardware
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Application support of IT-related software for manufacturing automation

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BS degree in a technical discipline. BS degree in Electrical, Information Technology, Computer or Electronics Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred
  • CCENT certification required
  • CCNA, CCDA, RCDD, CISSP certifications a plus
  • Cisco/Rockwell IMINS Training a plus (Managing Industrial Networks with Cisco Networking Technologies)
  • Working knowledge of VMware virtualization a plus

Senior Staff Specialist - Process Control Solutions

This opening is for our Denver, CO office.

Provides advanced and comprehensive application of control system theory to practical process automation implementation.  Also provides project team leadership as well as technical leadership in advanced process control hardware and software solutions including design, development, planning, and commissioning.  Applies sound and time proven knowledge and judgment when developing and testing new or existing systems. Provides recommendations for improving the methods and techniques for implementing robust process control system solutions.  Executes project management on small to medium-sized projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient experience in specifying and implementing Rockwell Automation PlantPAx process automation solution including demonstrated experience in FactoryTalk Batch Equipment Editor, Recipe Editor, Batch View, Formulation Management, and Batch Reporting.
  • Demonstrates, optimizes and instructs an advanced knowledge of control methods, including analog and discrete control and the critical components to developing robust and supportable control algorithms.
  • Demonstrates a high-level knowledge in automated control system design/implementation and control systems programming, including detailed understanding of the process, ability to optimize the parameters and optimize the measureable outcomes while minimizing risks of hazards.
  • Proficient understanding of continuous process control and batch control with the ability to lead its implementation and deployment based on ISA-TR106 and ANSI/ISA S-88.
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of P&IDs and instrumentation/control equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Develops, designs, specifies, and coordinates implementation of automated process control systems integrated with information systems meeting project requirements and obtains the results needed to meet client objectives.
  • Proficient ability to understand process control philosophy along with data flow needs and clearly write functional requirement specifications based on expected functionality including description of control loops, interlocks, alarms, process recovery modes, data capture and reporting.
  • Demonstrates leadership in on-site instrumentation loop checking, startup, troubleshooting and system commissioning in an industrial environment.
  • Facilitate and/or lead project execution including scope development, resource management, cost control, and scheduling of small- to medium-sized projects.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 5+ years of project experience in a process-related industry (food/beverage, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, brewing, dairy, oil & gas).
  • 5+ years of experience in process control system design, programming, and commissioning.
  • Proven ability to develop sound designs based on established methodologies, validated designs, and reference architectures for varying hardware and software platforms and communication networks.
  • Proven ability to develop Project Scope, Cost and Schedule Estimates along with execution of sound Project Management to bring assignments to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated experience in a project management capacity.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required.
  • Master’s degree in Control System Engineering from an accredited college or university required.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation PlantPAx system design, selection, and implementation.
  • Proficiency with at least two (2) or more of the following control platforms: Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, ControlLogix, PLC/5, SLC500.
