Members of the CSU community joined many of those who have donated services and equipment to the new teaching brewery in the Ramskeller Oct. 5 for a “peeling party” to unwrap the facility’s new brewing tanks.
At the event, the group began by peeling off the window coverings that had been keeping the facility under wraps in the lower level of the Lory Student Center. Then they removed the blue and white plastic covering the copper and stainless steel tanks, which can now be seen by Ramskeller patrons.
In addition to faculty, staff and students from the Fermentation Science and Technology Program and the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering, those doing the peeling included representatives of several of the companies that have contributed time and products to the project: Rockwell Automation, Molson Coors, Malisko Engineering, U.S. Engineering Innovations, Georg Fischer Coolfit, Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, Kathinka Engineering and NSI Newlands.
Friend of the College
As guests enjoyed pizza and — of course — beer from the Ramskeller, CSU alumna Jeannie Miller, a retired Molson Coors executive who was instrumental in securing the brewing tanks that the company donated to the new facility, was presented with a “Friend of the College” award by College of Health and Human Sciences Dean Jeff McCubbin.
The facility is scheduled to open later this academic year and will be used to teach students the brewing process using the most sophisticated system on any college campus in the country.
The Fermentation Science and Technology Program is in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, part of CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.
